We are 6th year H1B, but we only have a PD date of 27th July 2006.
My son turns 21 on 13th January 2008. We have an I-140 pending since August 30th 2006, which is probably a good thing because I understand that it will help to "extend" my son's time, provided it is not denied. Just got my 140 approved...no confirmation from the employer yet but received email from CRIS saying they mailed the approval on April 15. Looks like the published processing times are being adhered to.

Why is such a big organization like IV not able to generate funds. Is it that IV members are not worthy to give funding or is there something else that needs to be done to make the members shell out money. An organization with 20K members has a lot of potential generate funds.
I do agree that desi mentality is little different with regard to coming forward or donating money. But that cannot be sole factor for the IV failure. I strongly believe it is not the member contributions that can make IV survive. There should be other mechanisms of getting funding like advertisements, banners, corporate sponsorship, etc. All these are leadership decisions. And apparently we don't see that happening which leads to the notion that we need new blood in the team.
I also dont deny that IV core team has other things in their life. And they cannot devote complete time for this. So as mentioned in one of the posts lets employ a manager to do these things. Lets figure out the expectations for this employee and also the salary for about 6months duration. Lets us assess this employees progress. A full time responsible team members/assistants ( paid or non paid) are required for the organization. There could be non paid executive committee members in parallel.
How are other websites like La raza or similer websites generating money. What are the ways they are following. Analyse them come up with the strategy to get more funding. That is what the leadership team is supposed to do. Not winning on the members to give money always. Lets us accept it the funding that can be got from members can only be minimal. Now having understood that what are the alternatives?
I think we need to come out of the shell. IV core doesn't appear to be transparent as it is supposed to be. Remember am not denying what they have done so far is any less. But my only saying is that we could do much more with the 20-30K memberbase. Lets utilize the brains in the crowd.
Please dont start questioning me if I donated, participated and followed IV suggestions. Yes, I did all of them. The point is not I as an individual we are talking about the system as a whole.

Hi,
I been a member of IV for a long time and just to keep myself anonymous for a while I created this account. I am so sorry for opening a thread in a completely irrelevant forum but I have no idea what to do. So, I request all the members to please help me by providing some kind of information.
Here is my story:
I came to US in 2002 and completed masters and been working since then. I got married couple of years ago. Whatever the monetary gifts the girls parents gave as part of the marriage, I put all that in an account on the girls name within 2 days of the marriage. We came to India and from then on the problems started. She and her parents want me to separate from my parents and support their family by sending money to their parents which I couldn't do. How can I leave my parents in their old age when they worked very hard to give a decent life. She has been harassing me mentally for this all the time. Recently her parents have been threatening me saying they will file dowry case in India if I don't send money or cut myself off from my parents. I provided for the girl in all possible ways, even encouraged her to join school to get a masters degree which she stopped soon. We had a baby recently and my parents visited us to help us with the baby. She started harassing them too by saying something or other.
I am very frustrated at this situation and I don't know what to do. I am on H1B and applied for 485 too. At times I feel like applying for divorce but when I think about my little baby I am not able to take that step. The house we currently live in, I bought long before the marriage. It came to a situation where we cannot live together. I cannot ask her to go out of the house because she doesn't have anywhere to go and with the baby even if she leaves, it will be very tough. I said I will leave the house and stay in a apartment for which she threatens to commit suicide. So, I don't know what to do. I am worried about my baby because between all this my baby's life will be spoiled and I don't want that. Can anyone please tell me what I can do in this matter?

I had started a healthcare thread previously and it got poor response. Eventually we created an iv-physicians chapter to track our issues and work with the core team on the overall goals of ending retrogression.
There are a number of efforts on to help Schedule A applicants, some of these are parts of more comprehensive efforts like Cornyn's recent amendment.
I suggest you organize the Schedule A folks into a group. IV is very happy to work with any group that takes responsibility for their own needs.

If you do form a group, try to expand it by bringing members in from outside iv as well- this would also expand iv's membership base.
I will be happy to help you with anything you need based on our experience with iv-physicians so far.

I happen to be a freelance writer (not a journalist). In response to this thread, I have penned a 2,700 word commentary on the current challenges titled "The Plight of Promise". America does not need to do anything to get more workers. People will keep coming and it will always be a positive flow of good talent into America. The only Indians (and others) who might tell you that they do not want to come to the USA and the American dream is gone, etc., are talking bull and they know it. They will jump on a plane "the next minute" and come if the could. It's the same thing always: Go back Yankeee.................................and take me with you."

Vivek I do not fully agree with you. I do agree that first timers are eager to come to America but once the game gets exposed they will have second thoughts. Why there are no takers for german green card? Or why do people apply for HSMP in more numbers than any other european country. Because atleast on the face of it, that promises a long term path. How many people will want to jump on the plane if America says there will be no green cards, how many people will be attracted to it? America wants to have it both ways, they want people here but do not want to give GCs either.
I graduated from a good college in India. My classmates are divided 50-50 in US and India. The people who are putting up here either did very well and were toppers or failures. All others stayed in India and they will come here only if there is a long term benefit to come here.

H1Bs taken care by California and Vermont centers. 485, 131 and 765 are handled by Nebraska and Texas centers.
Also, Nebraska is big and main center. They know how to handle load.
Here are the EAD statistics (real numbers):

By seeing above numbers, you can see how USCIS handles load of millions of EAD applications every year. so, 600K is not a surprise for them. In 2003, they got more 2 million applications, but they handled well. But it may be take one or two months extra, i.e. 3+2 = 5 months maximum to get your EAD. Thats for sure. They will be prepared for that when you they allow us to file.
If you already applied for EAD now, then you will for sure have a EAD by December.
